Statistic Canada reports a very good year for Canadian wireless carriers. Here are some of the more interesting quotes.
The third-quarter operating profit margin of 30 per cent was the best ever for the industry, the margin of 27.7 per cent for the first nine months of 2004 puts the industry on track for its best year in history.
The number of wireless subscribers surpassed 14 million at the end of the quarter, a jump of 12.2 per cent from the third quarter of 2003, the agency said.
Operating profits in the wireless sector hit $753 million, a 39-per-cent surge compared with the third quarter of 2003.
Seems like the wireless carriers are rolling in the money, not really suprising to any of us. The Canadian wireless companies have been trying to pinch every extra dollar out of us, still charging a $6.95 “access fee”, can’t keep our numbers when we switch providers, and still charging for long distance! That’s what happens when you only have three major wireless carriers in a country.
