RIM BlackBerry Growth Fuels PDA Sales

Comments

Gartner reports a raise of 17 percent of world wide shipments of PDA. According to the analysts firm the increase of the average selling point has raised revenue to a record of $4.3 Billion in 2004 an increase of 16.7 percent from last year. The average price of a PDA in Q4 2004 was $353 a 9.4 increase from the same time last year. Gartner concluded that this was due to the popularity of the RIM device and that it would become the PDA leader by 2005.

The PDA market has shifted from unconnected organisers overwhelmingly purchased by consumers to a market in which 44 per cent of the devices shipped in 2004 offered integrated wireless and/or wireless Lan connectivity,” said Todd Kort, principal analyst at Gartner’s Computing Platforms Worldwide group. The research found that RIM experienced the largest growth rate on a revenue and shipment basis. “A major factor in RIM’s recent success has been its ability to rapidly add many new carrier partners, expanding its geographical reach,” explained Kort.

Gartner Research does not include Smart Phones so figures from the Blackberry 7100 and Treo 600 were not accounted for. Yeah I know, we find it weird that they didn’t even include the Blackberry 7100. Read more to see the exact figures
