Real gambling has finally come to your Blackberry. Golden Palace, the online casino that is most famed for hiring streakers at high profile events is responsible for this venture. They teamed up with Toronto-based Phantom Fiber that has already created wireless gambling for other handheld devices like the Palm Treo. Currently the only available game is Blackjack but they intend to release Slots, Sport Bookings, Roulette, plus others. We have already reported on this earlier but now we have an account so we can test BlackJack. Keep on reading to see what we have to say …
Before installing the program on your handheld, you will need an account on Golden Palace. Unlike the web version of Golden Palace you can not play for fun on the Blackberry. The only install option is Over-The-Air, and for that you will need to go to the following website http://www.goldenpalacemobile.com to find out the download link specific to your Blackberry model.
Starting the game you will first be impressed with the graphics of the game, they are truly superb and add to the realism of the game. The game rules are standard that you will see elsewhere, 6 decks, dealer hits on 16 and under, insurance, and 2 to 1 payout. We actually found the game to be quite fast even though each hand is pulled from Golden Palace’s online server. Other features that you find in your typical game of Blackjack are available including the ability to Double Down and Split your cards once.
Betting $1 per hand for three hours we didn’t find our chip stack to sway much from the $400-$420 mark. Obviously this isn’t much of a test to see if the game plays fair but we are assuming that they share the same back-end server that the web version uses. These servers are regulated by independent gaming commissions to make sure that no one is cheated.
The only issue we had was when a player stands and the dealer hits, the game will reveal all the dealer cards at once. This adds to the feeling that you get cheated especially when you have 20 and stand with the dealer showing 4. Then all of sudden the dealer will win with 21, showing the cards 4,6,5,6, all at once instead of turning the cards over one at a time. They need to add some sort of card-turning animation so it adds to the realism and suspense of the game.
The final word is that we have found the game to be very addicting. It’s up to you to decide if that is a good or a bad thing. Playing with real money just makes it much more enjoyable. It would be nice if Golden Palace offered a “fun money†option but there is nothing like the real thing. We can’t wait for Golden Palace to release a few more gaming titles.
