American and Canadian officials will partner in an effort to enhance the Blackberry security platform, according to The Winnipeg Sun. The goal is to develop security measurements so if the handheld falls into the wrong hand, data on the unit is secure. Currently the only security measurement is the option to set your handheld to ask for a password when you unlock it. I emphasize ‘option’ because I have not seen anyone turn on the password feature. It becomes too bothersome entering the password every time when you want to check your email and that is every 5-10 minutes for a lot of us Blackberry users. Hopefully the joint venture will figure out a way to secure the device with out making it more difficult for the end user.
