jmIrc is a an open source J2ME MIDlet allowing Blackberry and cell phone owners to use IRC wirelessly. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, a chat system that enables people connected anywhere on the Internet to join in live discussions. It is programmed for use on all MIDP 1.0 devices, thus it will work on the Blackberry but does not utilize Blackberry specific features.
This project started as a fork of Sverre ValskrÃ¥’s WLIrc but eventually led to be a complete rewrite project. Its aim is to be as small and lightweight as possible still trying to maintain the ease of use and all needed features. At the same time it tries to be some kind of hybrid implementing all the most useful features from other clients.
Download the program “Over-The-Air†with your Blackberry browser at http://jmirc.sf.net/jmIrc.jad

Works for us, file size is 38,484. You may want to try to contact the developer to see if he can help you with your problem.

In order for jmirc to connect check your vpn settings , fill in your provider details example mine is orangeinternet the password field is left blank, also check out coolirc ver 3 its far fully featured than jmir also it works on curve 8320
I am using a BB curve 8330 …d/l’ed jmirc but connection attempts continuously time out. I really want to get on irc.sorcery.net …any suggestions? This is my only internet right now…any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
You need to configure APN with your providers details. Go to > Options > Advanced Options > TCP.
If your provider is: Movistar then
APN: internet.movistar.ve
Username for APN: movistar
Password for APN: movistar
Notice i use a .ve domain in the APN because i live in Venezuela, you need to use the domain for you contry. Example: .mx for Mexico, etc.
If your provider is other than Movistar then click the link below and you should find the APN settings for other poviders:

Read it all.!
Hi there – thank you so much for taking the time to respond.
In my Blackberry Curve 8330 I looked in the > Options > Advanced Options > and there was no option for TCP. The link you included says this about my carrier:”Verizon – Has TCP/IP Newer models including 7250 and 7130 now has a TCP/IP stack, no configuration is needed. Many third party Internet applications work out of the box on it! However, the older 6750 and 7750 models will NOT work with TCP/IP”
I am not sure what this means. Should my phone be compatible with jmirc? Or should I search for another irc client?
@ Andrea, Read this and see if it helps

if not, then try updating your device software to the lastest version which is v4.5

if none of those work, then PANIC!!! haha just kidding. call you carrier.
Good luck.
Well, I certainly appreciate all your replies and attempts at helping me out. That certainly was nice of you! I tried everything… went into my Options, Advanced Options, Applications, changed the settings to allow everything for jmirc, all connections, etc., and keep getting the same thing… any server I try to connect to, it ends up saying, “Exception: Timed Out” at the end. Oh well. I did call Verizon a few days ago, and they couldn’t help me because jmirc is not Verizon-supported.
Works great for me, I can still be an irc channell op on the go. Its a little cumbersome but hey what do you expect its not a laptop! Great app tho!
