Deleting Multiple Emails

Has your Blackberry inbox become too big and you wanted to clean it? There are several ways you can do it, delete each message at a time which would take forever, highlight each message which could kill your thumb by scrolling so much or using Delete Prior. Delete Prior is a feature that allows you to easily delete emails from that day on. What you do is highlight the date you want to delete the messages from and wheel-click and hit “Delete Prior”. A very simple tip that could save you some headaches.

Hi this is indeed a useful tool, but one thing that BIS users should note is that if you have set up wireless reconcilliation to remove emails from the BIS when deleted on the handheld. Using the delete prior function will mean the emails are not deleted of the BIS unfortunately.

If you need to use this function, I suggest you use the Caps&Roll technique.
You hold the Caps lock and, you choose the e-mails you want to delete. Then, press the wheel and, choose delete messages. If you’re blackberry is set “Delete on : Prompt”, you will receive the message asking where you wan’t to delete the mails !!

what if I have moved my messages to a folder? the delete prior only works if the messages are still in the inobx.

Super thanks! Ultra helpful. But I noticed that the Delete Prior only appears in the pop up menu of choices, when you:
-are at the top of the inbox highlighting the last date, not when you are on an individual message
-or when you select a folder, like sms inbox selections.

Thanks. That tip was exactly what I needed. Much more useful than the delete prior. I frequently find myself needing to do a delete after.

I tried to delete my multiple emails but could not per the directions above. If I highlight the date, I can not scroll down to delete prior. Please clarify.

Brilliant. New Blackberry + a weekend of server outages = LOADS of messages I can’t do anything with. I needed an easy way to kill them all at once and this post & the Caps+roll comment nailed it for me.

can someone tell me how to change the settings to avoid email, sms and call logs being randomly deleted even thought the prompt and leave for forever settings are on?

This is a known bug and there is a known fix and, it is real easy.

Your phone does not have enough working memory.

Go to Options, Status and check the File Free number. You need 12Mb to avoud trouble. The number diaplayed is in bytes so divide by a million.

IF the phone needs memory for its own use then it wil just start deleting stuff that it considered non-esential. This includes your emails, call log, etc. Remeber the Blackberry traditionally gets its emails, etc. from a corporate server so these can normally be easily replaced by email reconcilliation. This is not the case with privately owned phones.

When you phone was delivered, it came loaded with loads of stuff that you really don’t need. We can get into removing unwanted additional languages later but for now, we can remove the unwanted Blackberry Sample Video (2Mb) by going to Options, Advanced Options, Applications and scrolling down to Blackberry Sample Video. Press Menu and select Delete and you get back 2Mb of memory.

Once the phone is running again, check File Free again. Then open the back cover and remove the battery for about 30 secs and put it back. When the phone reboots, check file free again. This new number is your true free memory amount.

The Blackberry Operating System (OS) is less than perfect at memory management and removing the battery or, a ‘battery oull’ as it is known round here cures a multitude of Blackberry ills and should be done about once a week.

If I use caps roll for deleting emails I can do many in a row which is great. However can I pick and chose which emails I want to delete then delete them?

My Blackberry does not have that menu, and the menu it does have does not have “delete prior.”
