Onset Technology, a leading developer of enterprise access software for wireless handheld devices, today announced major feature enhancements to its METAmessage Language Support capability for the BlackBerryÂ® wireless platform from Research In Motion. The capability lets users easily read BlackBerry Organizer entries, email messages and attachments, and SMS messages in language character sets that are not yet directly supported by the BlackBerry user interface such as Hebrew, Japanese, and Korean.
METAmessage Language Support is an important feature for BlackBerry resellers in emerging markets where customers receive messages and attachments in different character sets or where they use different character sets on their desktops. Language Support was rolled out by Hutchison Telecommunications Limited in Hong Kong and Partner Communications in Tel Aviv earlier this year. The feature is also vital in established BlackBerry markets, such as the US and UK, where multinational enterprises support numerous users from countries such as Japan and Korea. Onset is currently developing support for additional languages.
Ami Feinstein, Director of Marketing at Partner Communications, the Orange carrier in Israel, said, “Our customers’ business communications are primarily in English, but there is a large Hebrew component. For this reason, METAmessage is an absolute necessity for our offering. With METAmessage, BlackBerry users need not return to the office to read a message sent in their native language. The capability is especially valuable when used in conjunction with other METAmessage features such as spell checking.
