Date Reminder
When it comes to being organized, that is one thing that you can’t be too much of. So when we heard about Date Reminder a program keeps track of birthdays, anniversaries and other special events, we were very interested. One we wanted to know how it improved or differed from the pre-built Calendar program, and second was it worth the $19.99 price tag. Read our review below …

We had assumed that Date Reminder would be another Calendar program but found out it does things a bit differently. Date Reminder is the perfect name of the program, what it does is keeps track of important events in a nice ordered list and will alert you about the important events when they arrive.

Adding events is a simple process, add the event name, choose a category, select date and time, and then write additional notes if needed. One also has the ability to add or edit categories. Two main screens are available, the monthly calendar screen where it displays events in a typical calendar view and also a list view where you can choose to view upcoming evens in 7 days, 1 month, or even 1 year. The main issue we had with this screen is that there was no way to sort by category where you can view all entries for that particular category. The monthly view also has its issues where if you had 2 events on the same day it will only show the icon for the earliest event. So in order to see if you had more than one event on the same day you would have to highlight the date and look at the bottom.

We soon realize that this program is not meant to be a replacement for the built-in calendar, just an extension of it. There is no ability to view a daily schedule broken down by hours which you can in the Calendar program. Shortcuts are not there, which made the Calendar program very easy to use after you got the hang of things. And the main reason why Date Reminder can’t and should not replace your Calendar program as the main tool for your organizational needs is that Date Reminder does not sync with your Outlook.

Even though the built-in Calendar program should be your go to program, doesn’t mean there is no value in Date Reminder. Its strength is in the ability to track important events and easily display it in a list format.

Date Reminder is available for $19.99 at Neon Toad, http://www.neontoad.com

I used to love this program – unfortunately I have had issues with it lately and have received absolutely no response from tech suppport – bottom line is that is seems that it is not compatible with Blackberry Tour in spite of the fact that they say it is. So I upgraded my curve to the Tour and now I can’t access the program. I also had a situation on the curve where all my dates disappeared but when i tried to get tech support to figure it out.. I got no valid responses… that’s my experience with this program.

I have the same experience as Esther with the total lack of support. I have found that dates with the same day/month but different year are all treated the same. i.e. if it was 100 days till Dec 25th 2009, it will show up as 100 days for Dec 25th 2020!! It’s a great idea in my opinion, but I could not recommend a program with such appalling support.
