US carriers are stepping up to the plate and are now offering their subscribers the ability to donate by text message. All donations will be going to the American Red Cross for hurricane Katrina relief.
* Cingular Wireless sent a text message to every subscriber asking if they would like to donate $1.99. Simply reply with yes to donate.
* Sprint Nextel and ALLTEL customers can make a $5 donation by sending the text message “give” to the number “24357″ (2GIVE).
* Verizon customers can send a message to 2HELP or to 24357 with the keyword “help.” They will then be asked to confirm a $5 contribution to the Red Cross. The donation, which can be made up to five times for a total of $25, will be tacked on to the customer’s next bill. Donations will be tax deductible.
American Red Cross is also accepting donations directly through their website: https://give.redcross.org/
