Julie asked us,
Everytime I connect my Blackberry to my computer, Desktop Manager gets stuck on ‘working’ and I am unable to access the program. I already reinstalled Desktop Manager but that didn’t fix it.
There is a problem with the handheld, preventing communication with the desktop, so reinstalling Desktop Manager will not work. You will need to try the following steps:
1. Disconnect the handheld.
2. Reset the handheld by removing the battery from the handheld and re-inserting it.
3. Close and restart Desktop Manager.
4. Connect the handheld and open Desktop Manager. Desktop Manager should function normally.
If this does not solve the problem, leave the handheld connected to the computer and Desktop Manager open. Then, remove the battery from the handheld while it is connected. Re-insert the battery. When the handheld is finished powering up, check if the Desktop Manager is still in Working mode.

Many thanks. Was not able to find solution elsewhere and spent a lot of time prior to this trying to sort it out.
Thanks. Wasn’t able to find the solution anywhere else.
This saved my life. I was on hold with my cell phone provider for over 30 minutes, and then just looked this up and did it on my own. Thanks!
Just did this for a user on my network. Same, EXACT problem, right down to the installation.
Worked like a charm.
THANK YOU!!!
Thanks guys this worked fine !!
I had encountered the same problem of Desktop manager showing ” working”. The solution provided in your site worked like a breeze. Truly a great solution and hats off to you guys.
Gentlemen,
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for this solution. I literally spent 8 hours on this. Uninstalling/Reinstalling software, browsing the web, searching the blackberry faqs. Great job.
I will now use your site for all blackerry issues, software references, and additional purchases.

Thank you so much for this solution. I have been researching this on and off for a few days now. I’ve tried so many different things before stumbling on this solution. Worked like a champ!

I dropped my blackberry and thought my life was over. Nothing I tried would make it work again… all my life’s work was on my blackberry. I tried BlackBerryCool’s solution here and all I can say is thank you!
Oh my gosh, you guys are great! This procedure worked like a charm. I had “killed” my BB and then reloaded the SW. Unfortunately, I also had the “stall” while connected. This was so easy! Another bonus was that I had screwed up my e-mail (had 2 simultaneous accounts!) It fixed that too!
Thanks
Thanks worked for me as well
Thanks! Worked great and saved me a ton of time!
thank you thank you thank you
From a faithful reader, thanks for the tip!! You were the first hit on Google. After upgrading to the latest 4.2 OS for Cingular Pearl a couple of days ago (not much difference with battery IMHO), my desktop manager just stayed at “Working” status. It’s connected now – thanks!
Oh, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I just received a 7100t to replace an old phone and PDA and I was about to chuck the danged thing out the window…
You may have saved my sanity!
This was perfect!!! Spent hours trying to figure out what the issue was.
Thanks! Quick and easy and worked like a charm.
Thanks heaps. I wasted a lot of time on this problem before Googling to your site.
Guys, such simple steps – Thanks for the ehads up – Worked for with BIS, 8800, BDM 4.2.2.1 and Optus (Australia)
Many thanks for this great tip!
Thank you for the tip.
Thanks – This did exactly what it said on the tin
Not to be redundant, but you guys (and google)rock!
This solution worked for me — thanks for the post.
Microsoft Active sync does not sync with my calendar and Desktop Manager continues to show all my USB ports as “Disconnected.” Cannot get either software to work. Any suggestions?
I had a similar problem with one more twist to it. Intellisync got as far as reading the handheld calendar and got stuck. After re-loading software and rebooting I read you advice and followed your solution. I removed and replaced the battery with the handheld connected and then the handheld prompted me to enter the password. That never happened before. Usually I just enter the password on the PC. I entered the password on the handheld and synch progressed from there. Thanks for the help.
After having spent a couple hours on the phone with Verizon and Blackberry tech support, and doing all the usual clean uninstall and reinstalls of Desktop Manager (three times!), your instructions solved the problem. Thank you so much for your post!
Thanks for this great tip!
I spent about 1hr 30mins with my telcom carrier, who just read from a script, made me try all sorts of thing to no avail. Then out of desperation tried google, tried your suggestion and bingo! What a relief! Thank you.
I spent a whole day reinstalling the software to no avail, and even turned my handheld off but with no benefit. Great answer, easy to find on web via search. Thank you!
So True!!!
I have the exact same problem desktop manager stays in working
and tried both of your solution but nothing changed
Does anyone has anything that could help because I’m desperate
Worked great, people like you deserve a lot of applause for helping so many people countless hours.
Perfect. No one else had the answer!!
Thanks a bunch for the solution! Worked like a charm.
Thank you! Ditto frustrations written previously. Your solution worked!
Thank goodness! This has been frustrating me forever- glad to see it still works like a charm 3 years later.
Thanks very much for this, I tried everything to no avail.
Your instructions sorted the problem immediately!

When I connect my Blackberry 8100 to my computer using the USB cable and with the Desktop manager running, I lose control of my wireless mouse. As soon as I disconnect the cable, the mouse returns to normal.
Windows XP

Guys!! you saved me a heap! solution really worked..thks!
Another compliment to you guys – worked a charm -
hey. ive got another problem, it stoped saying working but i cant open my media manager at all. how do i fix that??
Hi. I tried both of your suggestions but it still has resolved my problem, which is that the desktop manager begins the synch process but about 30 seconds into it “desktop manager software has stopped working.” Do I need to try the uninstall/reinstall–will that help if resetting the handheld (both attached and unattached to the USB) hasn’t worked? Thanks.
Wow, just pulling the dang battery out and reinstalling it worked perfectly. I didn’t even have to rename my RIM folder on my C drive like some other site proposed; made me a bit nervous. I have the Pearl 8100 (I think) and what started to happen when I tried to sync with the desktop, the DM didn’t allow me to click on the Sync button. So, I did what everyone else did which was uninstall and install but I have the v4.2 going back two years so I tried an updated version on the ATand T site plus the Blackberry site;nope, didn’t work. So, I sent 7 hours today fighting through all the BS on the web finally to find Nirvana, which is right here. Now I can put my daughter to bed tonight! I thought I was going to be up until 3am trying to figure this out. Thanks o plenty
I have installed the Desktop Manager and when my computer starts, my wireless internet connection is slow to load, I’m guessing because the BlackBerry tethered modem takes precedence…I uninstalled the DM and my internet connection pops right up…is there a way to use DM w/o slowing my internet connection from loading?
I just purchased a Storm on Verizon network and tried installing the desktop manager 4.7. It quits unexpectedly when I connect the Storm to the USB. Any experience indicating that removing the battery will fix this issue? Thanks.
Also . . . I am running Windows XP not Vista.
I have a question that when i link the desktop manager with my BB, the DM appears a crash:searching the avilable softwares.I have searched the solutions and took out SIM card and retryed and failed. The internet says this software’BBweather’leads to the problem. When i uninstalled the BBweather the icon is still on the desktop of my BB. How to deal with this crash? Help me pls. Many thanks.
I too was having many issues with a new OS. This worked great!
