Remember the day Michael Brown was interviewed by CNN’s Soledad O’Brien and she blasted him and FEMA’s response to the crisis in New Orleans? She drilled him when Brown said he was unaware of the people in the Convention Center four days after the storm hit. It was the beginning of the end of Michael Brown’s tenure as The Head of FEMA. Brown’s response to the lack of information was to directly blame the State, “we’re busy doing life-saving and life-rescue efforts. We rely upon the state to give us that information. And, Soledad, I learned about it listening to the news reports.”.
This is actually untrue, Marty Bahamonde a FEMA insider was sent to the New Orleans Superdome as Michael Brown’s “eyes and ears”. Bahamonde was armed with a Blackberry and tried to sound the alarm numerous times about breaking levees and the growing danger inside the Superdome. In an email directly to his boss Michael Brown, Bahamonde writes,
…the situation is past critical… hotels are kicking people out, thousands gathering in the streets with no food or water… estimates are many will die within hours,”
Bahamonde later gets a response from Brown’s press secretary, fretting about Brown’s dinner plans for that evening. “…it is very important that time is allowed for Mr. Brown to eat dinner,” she writes. “Given that Baton Rogue is back to normal, restaurants are getting busy. He needs much more [than] 20 or 30 minutes.”. Bahamonde responds angrily, “OH MY GOD!!!!! Just tell her that I just ate an MRE and [went to the bathroom] in the hallway of the Superdome along with 30,000 other close friends, so I understand her concern about busy restaurants.”
We’re not too sure if this is the first time that a Blackberry has aided in a federal investigation but we’re going to guess this also is not going to be the last.
