have personally experienced mild “blackberry thumb” symptoms on more that on occaision. Generally speaking, they seem to hit me shortly after the launch of a new BlackBerry arcade game (so far Bass Assassin has left me in the most pain … I couldn’t even click the scroll wheel). Looking at all the posts so far there it would seem I am not alone; almost every affirmation of BB-Thumb also mentions game use.

In theory it makes sense as a specific type of repetitive strain disorder. Even if it is real, it is simply an occupational and/or leisure hazard. As for the ASHT pronouncement of the condition, it is important to remember that someone, somewhere wants to be the first to name a condition, and publish/present about it. So, someone chose to capitalize on this new perceived or real condition.

I don’t know about Blackberry thumb necessarily. The messages I send are generally pretty short. But I did notice some pain in the wrists and arms when I went on a Brickbreaker binge a few months ago.

BB thumb could be possible. I remember getting something similar to it playing Super Nintendo for hours on end as a kid. I would say that it is more fatigue than actual repetetive stess injury.

I have it. I’ve noticed that the joints in my thumbs have actually become “tired” and sometimes snap. I can still use it, obviously, but if I’m typing something somewhat lengthy I do have to stop and rest because my thumbs ache.

Before I decide whether BB Thumb is real or not I’d like to know more about the recommended treatment. Do they prescribe narcotics to help manage the pain? If so, then it is real and I have it! “Hi, I’m Jim and I have Blackerry Thumbs!”

Seriously, my wife is a physical therapist so from her preaching I guess I have to give some credence to any repetetive stress injury. I doubt it will ever reach epidemic proportions since you could always hunt and peck with your pointer finger or get an accessory keyboard.

I have not had any symptoms of the “Blackberry thumb” on the 7510, nor have seen anyone else with this problem (~80 7510 unit user base). I’ve had more discomfort typing on my laptop (HP nc8000) since the body of the laptop is very thick, and puts pressure on the wrists. I wonder if any 7100 series users have the effects more than the “traditional” blackberry style users.

I can not attest to having problems with my thumbs but here is something that I have noticed that is exciting. I have noticed a change in my forearms which is giving me additional length of the tee!. My golf game has improved so much since getting my Blackberry 6 months ago, I which I would have got it years earlier. Here is my advice, If you want an extra 20 yards off the Tee, get a blackberry!! Excuse me while I go get some work; and exercise done.
