J2ME Maps For Blackberry
J2ME Maps For Blackberry
Thomas Landspurg has ported over J2ME Maps to the Blackberry platform. J2ME Maps is a program interface that lets you communicate with Google Map. Features include satellite and map views, zoom, search requests, and the ability to save your favorite locations. J2ME Map also uses JSR179, so theoritically it is possible to get your location via GPS. But the GPS feature has not been tested by the author.

Hi, I live in Alaska..and am a nature photographer. If I download this to a blackberry…will it work even if I am not connected to the internet…when in the wilds of Alaska one can never be sure that a wireless connection will work consistently and I need something that will work even if I am offline. (I haven’t bought the blackberry yet..so not sure it’s the direction I am going anyway..but in the case that I do..I need my mapping software to work offline as well as online? (Basically..I can use Google Earth Offline..so I should be able to use this software the same way right?

    Thanks

Heidi, any BlackBerry with GPS support, such as the 8800, comes with BlackBerry Maps, which allows you to access basic location information without needing an internet connection. You still need a satellite signal in order to get your coordinates, but it looks like RIM’s mapping information for Alaska is fairly complete. Also, I’m pretty sure that once you’ve downloaded the map, it stays cached on your device, so even without a signal, you could access a map that was downloaded previously. Hope that helps!

google maps for blackberry. accurate up to 1100 meters???
how is a half mile accurate? I am not impressed. I just downloaded it to my blackberry and saw that on my screen. It showed my location so far off that if I was using it to actually find something, I would have thrown the thing out the window.

Is anyone having an issue with it not being able to find your location lately? Mine worked fine for 2 months, now says “Your current location is temporarily unavailable”. Any Ideas?

I had the same problem (accurate to 1100 meters). I uninstalled and reinstalled, it now works. I do have an odd issue with the search feature. The font is white on a white background?

I have saved some positions as Favorites in google maps on my blackberry 8130. How can I export these positions to my desktop computer or read the data, so that I can find them on my desktop google maps? Thanks!
