Migrating From Palm Device To Blackberry

Intellisync Migration
A new feature in Desktop Manager 4.1 is the Migration Wizard. The Migration Wizard enables you to import personal information management (PIM) data from Palm OS-based devices, such as the Treo, and Windows Mobile-based devices to your BlackBerry device. You can import contacts, calendar entries, tasks, and memos.

To use the Migration Wizard do the following:

1. If you are migrating data from a Palm OS device, hotsync your device. (Skip this step if you are using a Windows Mobile device.)

2. If wireless PIM synchronization is enabled on your BlackBerry device, disable this feature.

In the tasks, memo, address book, and calendar options, set the Wireless Synchronization field to No. Click the trackwheel. Click Save.

3. Connect both your BlackBerry device and your Palm OS device or Windows Mobile device to your computer.

4. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager and double-click Intellisync. The Intellisync window appears.

5. Click Import. The Migration Wizard window appears.

6. Click Next.

7. Select the type of device you are using, then click Next.

8. From the drop-down list, select the PIM profile from which you are importing PIM data, then click Next. The data migration begins.

9. When PIM data was imported successfully appears, click Finish.

10. Re-enable wireless PIM synchronization on your BlackBerry device (if applicable).

I had this problem and was able to resolve it by downgrading the version of Palm Desktop I was using. The 700p came with 4.2.something, and I had to get 4.1.something from the palm website.

Once I did that, it worked perfectly.

Will this work with Apple based systems, or is this a Windows-only trick?

Trying to decide whether to switch (which is being driven by nonexistent service from any carrier at my home. TMobile’s wifi service is attractive)

I tried to download 4.1 (like David said) and my current 4.2 version will not go away. How do I override this?

I’m trying to get all of my Palm Desktop information onto a new Blackberry Curve – ASAP! Can anyone help?

I just used Desktop Manager 4.6 to move all the information from a Zire72 to my BB. ACTUALLY the software never touches the Palm device but the Palm Desktop information. Also it is a good idea to have an updated version of the info in the hosting PC before to start this. A little bit of housekeeping like deleting/archiving completed tasks, old events and unnecessary notes or contacts will help. By the way, it is critical to have updated contact details in the Palm Desktop because they overwrite your BB details. You have the choice to avoid this during data transfer but no other record will be transferred so it is of little usefulness.

It has been an ordeal to transfer calendarfrom Treo 650 toBlackberry Curve 8310. Of 20,157 records 20,094 were reportedly migrated. Treo stuck and I had to abort and data got duplicated on the Treo, NO data was migrated. No contacts or memos!

Here’s a fix for the gray out problem – as stated above, you must have 4.1 as opposed to 4.2 (I think there are a few others that work as well – 4.1.4). Completely uninstall 4.2 – even to the point of downloading a Microsoft Cleanup Utility to erase all remnants of it if need be. Then get 4.1 from the Palm website or if you have a CD version of the Treo 650 software or can get your hands on it, this will work too. That’s what I did.

My continued problem is this – After solving the gray out problem, I’m still getting what “Frustrated” is getting – Can only get to a certain point in my calendar records and thenn the BB Desktop Migration locks up and I end up having to shut down both the BB software and the Palm software. What is the deal here?

I cannot find a solution to this online….any help at all?

The solution seems to be to sync your palm with outlook (using palm sync software) first, then sync the blackberry to outlook.

Hi Mary! It totally did not work. The new Blackberry Desktop is 5.0.1 and the options are not the same. I still have the gray out problem! Thanks so much for trying to help!
