BlackBerry SOSGeorge asked us,

For some reason my BlackBerry is now showing ‘SOS’ where the reception bar indicators use to show. No emails are received and I can’t place any calls.

The SOS indicates that you can only place emergency calls. Usually this means that you have a bad SIM card in your device, either one that has been corrupted or one from another carrier that is not compatible with your BlackBerry. You will either need to replace the SIM with a SIM from the carrier of your handheld or get your BlackBerry unlock. This feature is actually something that the carriers don’t really advertise. Where you are able to place emergency calls to 911, even if you don’t have a carrier account, just need a working cell phone.

    Thanks all , my BB was SOS – after reading the posts – saw the “insert SIM card” also, duh. Took out the SIM and reset and it is working again. Thanks so much, just trying to get this to work until my contract is up with ATT will move to iphone and another carrier!

    i have unlocked my phone and flashed it but it says sos by antenna bar and i have gone into manage connections and the mobile network is turned on but still says sos…”what else is there to do”..can anyone help me out?

    mine doesnt say global at all? just has”turn all connections off”" service status set up wi-fi set-up bluetooth , mobile network options, wi-fi options, and bluetooth options?where would i go into?

    went to manage connections and then mobile network but only shows up data services, while roaming and underneath mobile network which says none..where else do i go into?

    you need to reset the radio
    go to options-general settings-press options and choose master radio reset….
    pass=0000
    then go to manage connections and turn mobile network on
    reset phone and your good to go :)

    Check to make sure the SIM card is in correctly. I took my phone to a Sprint store for another problem I was having and they must have removed it and put it in backwards. Just be sure the orientation of the card matches the pictogram (the angled corner goes toward the battery.)

    My phone (BB Curve 8900) is unlocked but when i clicked the Turn All Connections Off option under Manage Connections and turn it back on it has signal for 2 seconds and then goes back to SOS. Can anyone help? Would be awesome.

    would the text message be sent from the blackberry or would it show the “x” network thing?? of course if its sent to someone else whose using blackberry!

    I have a Blackberry Torch, it also had no option to set “Global’. Go to “Manage Connections”, “Mobile Network Options” and set “Network Mode” to 3G (mine was somehow set to 2G), anyways the SOS is gone and my phone now allows me to call out.

    This are the options I’m getting. Nothing as network technology… Can u pls help

    I know this sounds silly, but make sure your sim card is inserted correctly.  I messed around w/ my phone for hours before realizing that the sim card needed to be inserted differently than on my last blackberry (i have t-moblie and bought an unlocked at&t torch 9800); the card still goes in with the T (for t-mobile) facing up, but the slanted side of the sim card goes towards the top (not inserted with the slanted side going in first); so the slanted part of my sim card is now facing my battery, not the bottom of the phone.  Also, make sure your radio setting is connected.  hope this helps :-)

    My blackberry when at home will randomly show SOS and you can’t do anything. Sometimes it will go months without doing it and other times it will show up everyday. I’ve always just taken the batter out and put back in and that has worked. But the last few days it has showed sos every morning when I got up……….The last time I took the battery out I noticed the SIM cared under the batter was kind of loose, so I put it back in securely and then the battery on top of it and it’s working fine. Perhaps the SIM is loose. I never realized this. I hope that was the problem…….

    When I go to manage connections and mobile network options: There is NO global. There is just “network (AT&T) and Data services (on or off). That’s it

    i have a blackberry curve 9300 ive had it for 6 months now ans last couple day sit keeps saying sos so i reset my phone took battery out ans ism card i tried my sim card in enougher phone and it works fine ive tried everything please help

    AHHH I NEED HELPP!
    ive tried everythiing that i can , did a whip and tried turning it on and off, a buncha stuff.. nothing will work !
    i unlocked it , and it will flash to service.. and sometimes ill get like one text.. so the nlocking workked/
    but than it goes right to SOS and wont changeee ..
    im getting so frusterated someone pleasse  help!
