Ask Us! Storing Phone Numbers to SIM Card

Copy To SIM
Chad asked us,

I have the blackberry 7105 and I need to save my numbers in my phone book to my sim card. How do i do that?

We’re guessing Chad uses another cellphone thus to make for an easy transition he needs to store his phone book on his SIM card. So instead of re-entering all the phone numbers again he can just import them from the SIM card. There is a solution built-in to the Blackberry OS to do exactly what Chad needs to do.

To copy a phone number from the address book to the SIM Phone Book on your handheld

1. On the handheld Home screen, click the Address Book icon.

2. Select the contact containing the phone number you wish to copy.

3. Click the trackwheel and select View.

4. Select the phone number, click the trackwheel, then select Copy to SIM Phone Book.

5. Click the trackwheel and select Save.

No there’s no way to copy your BB contacts to your SIM DIRECTLY. That being said, it is possible to use the synchronization option to export all your contacts to a text file(CSV). Once you have your contacts in clear text then you should be able to use another phone vendor’s application to import these into a phone that does allow you to copy contacts to a SIM. Now if only there’s an application out there that allows you to directly work with SIM cards through a PC adapter of some kind…Come on ppl I’m practically throwing this $$$ making idea out there!!

I just used the Blackberry Desktop Manager to transfer everything in my old blackberry curve to my new storm 2. All you have to do is hook up both phones to your computer and it transfers everything, even old text messages. My address book was copied to my phone, but I will still have to save them to SIM individually. I have also used SyncCell in the past to transfer from Razer to Blackberry.

It is the most stupid and annoying phone I ever got in my life (unless you just want to use the Media. I will never ever buy such a brand – annoying Blackraperry -there is nothing intuitive in this phone and you cannot do anything the normal way. Such a simple command like copy from the phone to SIM card it is just impossible….idiots… Go for an Iphone or any other 2cents or free phone. Somebody should take this company out of business and hang the programmers.

How do you copy your entire address book onto the SIM for a 8700? With over 500 addresses / no's, the indivudual method will take a while!!!

Also have tried the desktop method of transferring data from the old phone to the new phone but cant seem to find desktop software which works with the v4.1 software on the 8700?

I have copied a contact onto my SIM card. However, now my contacts book is locked on a screen that reads “Phone Entry” and then lists name and number and I am unable to view all other contacts. How do I “un-freeze” this page? In the upper right corner, there is a little square that has 123 in the box.

how to select more than one contact/phone numbers that wish to be copy to sim card?

Its very likely that this function exists, but is hidden. Most truly useful Blackberry functions, such as deleting an address book from your contacts, use secret codes. I can only guess RIM’s corporate control freak mentality is the cause of this unnecessary frustration. Its definitely hurting their business.

I too am trying to copy ALL of my contacts onto the SIM, not one at a time. I have had the phone for a few years so there are hundredss!!!! There is NOTHING in the contacts list that indicates whether the entry is on, or not on the SIM card – therefore you have to enter each individual entry when you are in the SIM Card Contacts!!!!!!
Other phones (Nokia and more) HAVE this functionality
This has made up my mind – goodbye Blackberry!!!!!!!!!
