Canada Lobbies U.S. in Blackberry Patent Dispute

Some Canadian officials have pressed the U.S. for a resolution in the patent-dispute case between Blackberry-maker Research In Motion Ltd. and NTP Inc., the Washington Post reported.

In a Nov. 7 letter addressed to U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez, Canadian Minister of International Trade David L. Emerson, then minister of industry, requested that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office publicly disclose its timeline for a review of the patent claims held by NTP, the Post said, citing a copy of the letter.

RIM has become the darling technology company of Canada, and it’s obvious that the federal government doesn’t want it to become the next Nortel, Corel, or JDS.
