Weekend Contest ‘Was Palm’s strong Treo sales due to RIM?’
This weekend’s contest is entitled ‘Was Palm’s strong Treo sales due to RIM?’. Palm just announced some very strong Treo sales for their 3Q, revenue rising to $388 million from $285 million this time last year. But the most important number Palm released was that according to them they now own 30% of the smartphone market compared to 22%. That’s 8% they have cannibalized from someone else, either Blackberry users who switched or smartphone users that switched from their previous Windows powered device to the new Treo 700w.
Obviously Palm doesn’t want to admit that RIM helped their sales number because the legal issues are now a thing of the past, instead Palm is focusing on their introduction of the new Treo 700w that helped boost sales. However, analysts are singing another tune and solely pointing out the reason for Palm’s success was indeed RIM’s legal issues with NTP.
So who’s right, Palm or the analysts? Write your comments below and you can win a copy of Magmic’s new game, Glom Factor. The winner will be announced on Monday.
