AOL Launches Mobile Browsing Service

Comments

AOL Mobile Search
AOL has announced a new mobile browsing service that reformats websites to appear better on mobile devices including the Blackberry device. This is similar to a service from Google and a handful of independent sites. These types of services have caught some flack with critics because they can strip out advertisements without consent from the publisher.

When searching through AOL.com via a mobile device, the site automatically adapts and returns links that go through the new browsing service.

In related news, AOL and Sprint Nextel furthered their partnership to bring a new mobilized AOL.com portal to Sprint subscribers.

What is the URL of the mobile AOL site? When I go to aol.com it asks me to use the link from the Cingular mobile portal which has no link for AOL.

AOL.com. It is suppose to redirect you to the AOL mobile portal site where you can do the Search. But if that doesn’t work, try:

    http://mobile.aol.com/portal/main.php

Looks like Cingular hasn’t paid AOL to link to the site. I am seeing the following message from the aol.com link and the mobile.aol.com link:

The AOL Mobile Portal is available on most US networks, please access it from your phone’s browser menu. AOL is typically located in the “Portals” or “Messaging” folder.
