Luke just shot us an email about a very strange text he just received from Verizon regarding his Q9c:
FREE VZW MSG. Improve your Q! Simple, one-time fix prevents issue that may affect your Q9c. Go to http://www.motorola.com/q9cfix on your PC for details.
So we dutifully went over to the linked site and saw that they’re asking a very strange question. When you head to Start -> System Tools -> Memory Manager, they ask if you have a certain amount of memory listed as free, namely 48.94mb. If you check “yes” and hit next, you get this scary message:
The fact that your Device Storage value reads 48.94 MB means that your Q9c is VULNERABLE. There are two ways to fix the issue, either upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 or Master Reset your device
Weird? Weird. Apparently Q9c devices that haven’t been updated to WM6.1 are prone to freezes on startup if they have exactly 48.94mb of storage memory free. Their recommendation: upgrade to 6.1. Our recommendation: do just that (here’s a link), then sit and wonder why exactly a certain amount of free storage memory could potentially freeze your device.

I can’t even begin to describe the frustration that the Moto Q has caused me. Words can’t even convey. I have my fifth replacement sitting right in front of me. I plugged it onto the charger and it won’t charge. By the way earlier this morning I had my fourth replacement that when used to call out, no one could understand a fucking word I was saying. So, I got it replaced with my fifth one sitting in front of me that I can’t charge. 2 of these pieces of shit in one day and niether works. It’s fucking awsome. The Moto Q is fucking chunck of shit, nuf said…

I bought a Motorola Q 2 days ago and it froze for the first time literally 5 minutes after I bought it. It freezes at least 10 times per day — I’m going to have a hard time ever buying another Windows Mobile device. I’ve had 3 Blackberries and they’ve been rock-solid — never a problem.

My Blackberry 7250 freezes up at least twice per day. I would say it is closer to 7 times per day. I have had it for two weeks. I just leave the battery cover off because it is so hard to remove over and over.

My Treo used to freeze, reboot, turn off the wireless, and shut down ALL DAY LONG. Just depended on it’s mood which one of these things it would choose to do.

The Q sucks!! it freezes more than twice a day. It was not worth the $442. It’s one of the worse peice of crap they ever put out.

I purchased a Motorola Q acouple of weeks ago, and it hasnt froze up on me once. I actually had more problems with my iPaq then i do with this.

my q freezes every couple of days and last week on vacation in Hawaii it completely crashed and now it wont turn on. I am in the process of returning the Q, plus you can’t even run office mobile on it. Don’t waste your money, go with a blackberry or a Palm.
