BlackBerry Cool was all aflutter yesterday because of a report from T3 that an “all-new” and never-before seen BlackBerry was going to be announced yesterday. Our sources cried foul and several of our readers emailed in to say that they were probably referring to a new carrier announcement for the 7130 or 8707. Turns out you guys were right.
T3 is reporting today that the BlackBerry 7130g has launched in the UK today via 02. The device weighs in at 115x56x18mm and just 120g, making it the slickest 71XX BlackBerry to arrive yet (definitely a step up from the chunky 7130e). Under the hood, it features Intel’s XScale 312MHz processor, making it as fast as the 8700. The 7130g comes with EDGE network support and also features the 8700’s light-sensing LCD screen, allowing it to adjust screen brightness on the fly depending on lighting conditions. Basically, the 7130g is a candybar version of the 8700.
The BlackBerry 7130g comes free from 02 with a contract and should be available to Britons right now. Our sources inform us that the 7130g will be coming to North America (or at least Canada) through Rogers, with an announcement coming soon.
