RIM announced today that NTT DoCoMo, a worldwide mobile communications company will start marketing BlackBerrys to its customers in Japan starting autumn 2006. The devices will operate on UMTS and GPRS/GSM networks but will only be available to enterprise customers for the short term.
In a tasty bit of mobile communications trivia, NTT DoCoMo launched the world’s first 3G mobile service based on W-CDMA in 2001.
