Last week we brought you news that NTT DoCoMo has teamed with RIM to bring undisclosed BlackBerry models to enterprises in Japan. However, Engadget Mobile made the interesting point that beyond a question of what devices our Japanese friends receive, they wondered how Japan’s glyph-based written language was going to transfer over to the BlackBerry’s tiny keyboard. Our Japanese sources have informed us that the answer is simple: they won’t. Apparently, Japanese phones and computers commonly feature the Latin alphabet (i.e. the one I’m using right now), so BlackBerry device redesign for the land of Godzilla and sake will most likely be minimal, if at all.
