Next order of business was to find some one that had the tools and skills to bring the matte black shell to life in the image I desired. As I was explaining the idea to my wife, she suggested dropping by our local car dealership where we have been a client over the past 20 years. Trust your wife!
Off I went to Roy’s Pontiac Buick Cadillac Inc. of Green Valley, ON – case in hand. I chatted with the sales manager who then walked me over to the head of service, and together with a few of the other service folks followed the procession over to the body shop. The body shop worker was looking pretty suspect as he saw us coming. He was soon surrounded. As I whipped out the shell, I explained my vision of bringing it to life with a first-class body-shop makeover. He frowned first and then after examining the parts watched as a smile emerged. Pimp-my-ride, step-aside – there’s a new Berry in town!
We talked about colour, reviewed some choices, settled on a match to my Ferrari Red and then, at his suggestion, agreed to use bumper paint to make the coating extra resilient to handling a wear.
A few days later, there was a message on my answering machine at home from the body shop at Roy’s that my work was ready and available for pick-up. I arrived to the body shop, and was presented with a masterfully painted, Ferrari-red BlackBerry shell. I asked what the cost was and was told that it was the compliments of Roy’s as a thank you for many years of being a customer. They pointed to a sign: “We guarantee that our friendly Sales & Service staff will treat you ‘Royally’! If we can’t make the deal, the deal can’t be made!†Cool.
There are rewards to loyalty. Mine just happens to be shiny and red. I probably broke every rule in the book, but now I have the BlackBerry I want, cherish and enjoy, each and every day… And for everyone that asks, I say “Credendo Vides†– Believing is Seeing.
