The Story of the RedBerry

RedBerry

Next order of business was to find some one that had the tools and skills to bring the matte black shell to life in the image I desired. As I was explaining the idea to my wife, she suggested dropping by our local car dealership where we have been a client over the past 20 years. Trust your wife!

Off I went to Roy’s Pontiac Buick Cadillac Inc. of Green Valley, ON – case in hand. I chatted with the sales manager who then walked me over to the head of service, and together with a few of the other service folks followed the procession over to the body shop. The body shop worker was looking pretty suspect as he saw us coming. He was soon surrounded. As I whipped out the shell, I explained my vision of bringing it to life with a first-class body-shop makeover. He frowned first and then after examining the parts watched as a smile emerged. Pimp-my-ride, step-aside – there’s a new Berry in town!

We talked about colour, reviewed some choices, settled on a match to my Ferrari Red and then, at his suggestion, agreed to use bumper paint to make the coating extra resilient to handling a wear.

A few days later, there was a message on my answering machine at home from the body shop at Roy’s that my work was ready and available for pick-up. I arrived to the body shop, and was presented with a masterfully painted, Ferrari-red BlackBerry shell. I asked what the cost was and was told that it was the compliments of Roy’s as a thank you for many years of being a customer. They pointed to a sign: “We guarantee that our friendly Sales & Service staff will treat you ‘Royally’! If we can’t make the deal, the deal can’t be made!” Cool.

There are rewards to loyalty. Mine just happens to be shiny and red. I probably broke every rule in the book, but now I have the BlackBerry I want, cherish and enjoy, each and every day… And for everyone that asks, I say “Credendo Vides” – Believing is Seeing.

Imagine a world where your phone only rings if the call were important to you – I think my Red BlackBerry personifies that world.

Wow. You painted your blackberry. What an accomplishment. Can I get a copy of your resume? You freaking rule.

$10 says you screwed up your radio performance and will suffer decreased battery life & reduced range due to interference with the antenna. There’s probably plenty of metal in that paint — event if it doesn’t have an obvious metal-flake.

Metal flake in the paint? I used to mix paint with metal flake. Its a finer dust than dust is. I think its a cool idea? Even if there were problems with it that needed to be worked out, its still the very same inventive ideas that brought Blackberry into the market. Who knows? With that kind of initiative, in 5 years, Howard might come up with an idea that puts Blackberry, Palm, all the windows type mobiles, maybe even Bill Gates himself into the dark ages of outdated ideas. Would you still be sitting in front of a screen with nothing else to do but knock someone else’s idea about how to improve on Howard’s invention? You think maybe BlackberryCool would go through the trouble of getting in touch with you to write an article on you? UmmHmmm.
Howard, awesome job!! Even if you don’t make it big, you still care enough about what you want to make it happen! If your idea is a success, that is if the tiny dust particles don’t interfere with the signal transmission from the big satellite in space, I’ll be the first to want a catalog!
