GSM logoThe European Telecommunications Standards Institute (or ETSI if you know them well) has taken taken it upon themselves to celebrate 20 years of the GSM. The good ‘ole Global System for Mobile Communications has found its way into 2 billion phones, 12,000 different device specifications and continues to evolve with the advent of GSM 3G.

“GSM has fuelled the societal shift from place-based to people-based communications and, as an inclusive technology, is not only a success in business terms – but has also been successful in changing people’s daily lives. Put simply, it is now difficult to imagine a world without GSM,” said ETSI Director General, Karl-Heinz Rosenbrock.

Thank you, GSM, for helping to fuel our voice and data addiction.
