T-Mobile launches Vario II

T-Mobile MDA Vario II

T-Mobile launched the MDA Vario II in the UK and Germany yesterday (with Austria, the Netherlands, Hungary and Slovakia coming soon), and it looks to be a jaw dropper. The Windows Mobile 5.0 device features 3.5G HSDPA and W-LAN support, fully QWERTY keypad, Bluetooth, a 2 megapixel camera, 128 MB of RAM, an external microSD slot, and (most importantly) push email through Microsoft Exchange.

For all our readers in North America wondering why we never really see devices like this on our shores, there are a couple of reasons. First, we don’t quite yet offer the band frequencies that these devices are designed for (but we’re working on it). Second, just look at this report coming out of Germany, where the Vario II was co-launched. Now that’s the type of mobile penetration that deserves bleeding edge devices.

Fugly! I don’t want any moving parts on my device. THat just introduces more opportunity for failure and complications. (hinge breaks, slider jams, etc..)

“First, we don’t quite yet offer the band frequencies that these devices are designed for (but we’re working on it).”

Well, it’s supporting GSM/UMTS/HSDPA 850 and 1900 MHz which is used in America only, so it’s supporting all required frequencies out of the box.
