A new study from consultancy firm Aziz shows that over two-thirds (68%) of senior British executives bring wireless email devices with them while on holiday. Not suprisingly, among the BlackBerry users within the survey, the exact same percentage check their email once a day. However, just under three-quarters of the BlackBerry users said that they only respond to urgent messages.
“Our research reveals that British bosses want to be contactable during their annual leave. They like to be kept informed and, whilst this does not mean jumping on the phone in response to every email, it does allow them to be available if needed and keeps them in the loop,” said Professor Khalid Aziz, chairman of Aziz.
Here’s a few more interesting stats to consider. Almost eight in 10 business people in the UK believe that accessing email while away makes returning to the office after a holiday easier. Sounds good, but is that the real reason why they bring their BlackBerrys with them on trips? Another stat reveals the potential truth of the matter: for 12 per cent, checking email provides a welcome break from family while away. This is starting to sound like National Lampoon’s BlackBerry Vacation.
