Palm OS (kinda) lives on

We told you last month about Palm’s decision to pull out of co-development with PalmSource (aka Access) for their next-gen OS, dubbed ALP (Access Linux Platform). Well, it’s starting to look now like that announcement wasn’t exactly the death blow for the little OS that we originally thought it was.

Access/PalmSource recently demoed a near-complete version of ALP at a mini-conference during LinuxWorld, and from what Engadget’s saying, it looked pretty good. Although not many hardware manufacturers have filled in the gaping hole left by Palm, the company says they’re still on track to deliver the OS to licensees at the end of the year, with the first ALP products finally emerging next spring.
