Weekend Contest: “What about Boy Genius?”

Such an obvious topic for a Weekend Contest, we’re surprised we didn’t think of it earlier. Boy Genius has made a name for himself by breaking bleeding edge BlackBerry news. To some, he’s a hero; to others, a snitch. After we broke the news that RIM knows who he is, some have questioned his credibility, while others find him all that more impressive.

So we want to know what you think about the BG. Tell us who you think he is, who he works for, what his best scoop has been, whether what he’s doing is hurting RIM or helping them or even if you think RIM is in control of the situation. The person with the best comment will win 3 free Magmic games! I belief is that Boy Genius works for Rim’s Public Relation department. He releases photos and information when he boss wants him to. It is all part of the ‘Plan’ to promote blackberry devices. Free publicity.

I agree. Boy Genuis is releasing what RIM wants when he or she is told too. I bet it is a she, as the name implies it is a boy. No better way to promote than free advertising leaks provide right to the people who are most likly to buy the product the day it is released.
Of course, us Berry Geeks are glad for this. We need our regular dose of new BB info to make it to the next release, OS or handheld.

Yeah who really cares whether he wors at RIM or not. I’m just glad he’s around and can provide his ‘services’.

But I’m really not too sure he’s being controlled by RIM. I think RIM is just allowing him/her to do it after the type of hoopla they’ve been getting with the leaks. I actually know someone who was threaten by RIM’s lawyer after releasing leaked pictures of the 8700, then known as the Charm device. And now it looks like RIM has changed their policy with Boy Genius.
