[...] Appears as though the Palm of the handheld world is getting all clammy. With recent news that Motorola has bought up symbol technologies, Yahoo Finance reports that the same fate could be handed to Palm. Jonathan Hoppes, an analyst at Think Equity, isn’t sure on who the buyer would be (leaning towards Motorola), but feels as though there’s definite value in picking up the company. Hoopes says his belief that either Motorola or another company will pursue the company “is a major reason we did not encourage investors to sell shares despite management’s recent track record of mis-execution.” [...]

[...] Lots of great things have made it our way across the pond from the UK: The Office, English tea, and now this article from Guardian Unlimited explaining competitive tactics against the BlackBerry. The article cites Palm’s declining stock, as did we, but the article mentions that certain partnerships they’ve garnered could help them squash RIM and the BlackBerry. In a statement that Mr. Laziridus or Balsillie could have spewed today regarding the Pearl (but obviously without their charm), Palm VP John Hartnett had the following to say “We want to reach beyond techies and pure business people… It’s a long-term strategy: closed solutions solve today’s need, but an open platform will win in the long run.” [...]

[...] We just watched the trailer for the new film in the Rocky series, but we’d rather check up on another battle. Information Week’s decided to not only put Palm up against the BlackBerry, but give some numbers to back up any blows. The gorgeous graph shows RIM on top of the game, holding onto a 53% market share. Will the Pearl keep them on top, or is Palm looking to slap the competition (albeit with a weak one for now)? “Palm sees Windows Mobile as its best bet in the business market because it ties in to servers and applications. But the BlackBerry has a considerable lead, accounting for more than half of all smart phones sold in the United States last year.” [...]
