I think I was moreso wondering what do you think will replace the iPod as the big tech item, and wondering if the Pearl had an inkling of a chance if marketed properly and has some other improvements.

You totally misinterpreted them. You took the words “Pearl” and “ipod” in the same sentence and imposed your own meaning. All they said was that it could become a platform, LIKE the ipod or razr, as in, more Pearl products may be coming, not that it was going to be as POPULAR as ipod.

The pearl looks nice small and packed with a punch! However not an ipod killer. I own an ipod and to be honest its not all that there are so many other mp3 player on the market that are much better. Larger memory and cheaper. But if your a music lover I don’t think you would prefer a BB over a mp3 player for listening to your music that is. Now the Pearl is better than the Q by far but then again what isn’t.The Pearl to me is a mini 7100 even though it has more than the 7100 what they have in common is the suretype keypad eww But that’s my opinion and am sure there are many people that are very comfortable with sure type but chances are they converted from a cell phone and not the qwerty keypad of the 6700,7700 or 7200 series. My mind is set on the 8800 now that phone will be the Pearl killer lookout world the Crimson Tide is coming in But being in Canada and on a CDMA network I won’t see the 8800 for sometime so I will get the 8700 which by the way is an amazing device.

iPod killer, no. I personally think the 8800 will have a greater impact than the pearl. Many people, myself and friends included, can’t get behind suretype. The Pearl is an ok phone, but it’s all hype.

I believe it will have a huge impact long run. For many years I carried a cell phone, PDA, MP3 player, and a digital camera. Although there have been Pocket PC and Palm attempts at phones, they have been unstable and frankily ugly. The Pearl is the first converged device that puts everything in a single, stable package that is sexy (e.g. like what Apple did with the iPod)

It will not be the next iPod, because before the iPod there was not much MP3 player saturation, and nothing locked you into a contract for a particular MP3 player. The Pearl has additional service costs (i.e. blackberry data plan) and people who already have cell phones or just recently purchased cell phones, won’t be able to buy the Pearl at discounted prices.

I doubt the Pearl will not even be the next RAZR as the Pearl currently only is available through T-Mobile, which if you look at T-Mobile’s own coverage map is less pervasive once you leave the midwest to eastern US.
