Symbian approves RIM’s “nemesis”

Comment

I never understood the whole “friends close, enemies closer” mantra, but let’s hope RIM does as their so-called “nemesis” has been given Symbian’s stamp of approval. Visto, as you might remember, was battling RIM in the courts over some patent infringement issues, and now this thumbs-up will help Visto get their mobile e-mail solutions for the Symbian platform to market faster.

“Visto’s mobile e-mail technology supports over 100 different wireless devices and a wide variety of platforms in addition to Symbian, including Windows Mobile, the Palm OS, and J2ME, in addition to WAP browsers. POP3, Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino e-mail servers are supported.”

I’m not seeing any reason for RIM to sweat just yet. Symbian’s been making empty threats for a while, and adding Visto into the mix should only drive our pals at Research In Motion to raise some eyebrows and keep up the good work.
