I tried Opera on my 8700. The rendering engine didn't seem to be any better, and it doesn't feel at all like a BlackBerry app.
The thing that turned me off the most was that I double-click to enter a URL, but for some stupid reason, they decided that "Clear" would go at the top of the menu.

Been using Opera on my 8700g for months now (exact same version as the website lets me download).

For the naysayers above, just try using Opera for a while it is just so much faster, renders web pages that are far easier to read and navigate than the BB Browser.

The only shortctuts I've missed are "t" and "b", and I never really used those a lot.

Useful shortcuts on Opera that people never seem to know about:

"Q" Is the left-hand soft-key, and selects in the left-hand menus

"P" Is the right-hand soft-key

SPACE is page-down (actually this works in almost any mobile or PC web browser too)

the BB's "escape" key (below the wheel) is Back

And if you just want to swap out of Opera to another app and back again without losing your place in Opera you can use the standard BB shortcut of "Alt+Escape" to bring up the task switcher.

you guys are nuts - this browser renders pages 100 times better than the bb browser. The only upside to the bb browser its in zooming in on pictures. otherwise opera renders best - and its free :)
on my 8700 with edge, it rocks

It's v 2.0 and it's stunningly mediocre for BB. If I had a non-BB cellphone it probably would be OK, but without the normal shortcuts that the browser has (t-top, b-bottom, k-bookmarks, etc. etc.) it's pretty lackluster. I do like having the time visible while browsing, but that's not enough to make me switch.

Where's the story? Been using Opera Mini on 8700 and 7290 for ages. Is it improved? I can't see updating because I can't find anywhere whether I will lose my Bookmarks if I do. :(

I think Opera mini would be better with a few simple updates..

1. Allow someone to "Hide" the browser and come back later without having to exit and restart

2. Provide a small signal strength icon, like the blackberry browser, so you can see how strong your signal is while you're browsing.

I should probably submit that to them instead of ranting here, eh?

I'll go do that..

Actually I loaded it on my 7100T when it first came out around a year ago and it took up TONS of space and made the BBerry crawl. Not a good choice of app IMHO. The WAP browser is lightweight and gets the job done for my needs.
