Coupland is responsible for defining Generation X as such, but he did not coin the term. He borrowed it from sources which, in turn, had borrowed it from others. The term goes back to a book written in the early 1960s by a couple of Brits to describe the disaffected youth of their era, who, ironcially, were actually Baby Boomers.
