National Post profiles Jim Balsillie

Really wish there were more 8800 notes to share with you this morning because frankly, this whole “Balsillie buys Penguins” news is giving me a little bit of a headache (just try searching the newswires for anything different). Nevertheless, the National Post has done a great job on profiling the new owner of the Penguins Co-CEO of one of Canada’s most successful corporations - Research In Motion.

The article gives a short rundown on how RIM came to be, and notes Balsillie as a known philanthropist who enjoys giving more than receiving. The holidays must be swell at Jim’s place.

“In 2000, he donated $10-million toward the founding of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, adding to the $100-million contributed by Mr. Lazaridis.

In 2002, Mr. Balsillie founded the Centre for International Governance Innovation, with $30-million in personal funds and matching financing from the federal government.”

Someone should tell Mr. Balsillie that there’s people out there that need more than just money - like more info on the Indigo or something, you know?
