Readers responded when we asked whether or not they base their wireless purchases on leaks, lies, and speculation that circulate sites such as our own (apart from the lies – we would never do that to you). A young, bright, and outstanding student Kyle walks away with three Magmic games for his valuable two cents. “For me, it’s all about the source and how credible (or not) it is. I have been using a T-Mobile BlackBerry Pearl for a little over a week now since I upgraded from a 7100. I followed the progress of the Pearl in general since I first heard of it and saw a leaked picture of it in August. This picture, along with T-Mobile corporate documents detailing it’s release date did indeed sway me to abandon looking at the Sidekick 3 or SDA as my next phone.” [...]

Do we get caught up in the hype? I think the fact that we're constantly checking this site (as well as Boy Genius, RIMarkable, BBHub, etc.) means that we all can't deny that, yes, we do.

And what better hype to get caught up in than Blackberry hype?

As much as anyone reading this site would like to base all their wireless purchases on the cold, hard facts of a device, the wireless industry is a prime example of the "grass is greener" ideology that is prevalent in electronics (whether it's televisions, computers, etc.).

How many of us have said something along these lines... "My ___(fill in device)___ does everything I want it to EXCEPT... Maybe I'll give this other one a try, it might do it all."

And, of course, it never does quite "do it all", does it?

As far as the Cingular thing goes, it's really pretty funny when you think about it. They completely bungled the launch of what may turn into their best holiday seller (it should if they can meet the demand) BUT all the internet gossip and rumors did nothing but keep people's interest focused on it just a little bit longer until they finally did launch the Pearl. In effect, we lessened the effect of their screwups by keeping the juice on.

I picked up my Pearl on December 1st from Cingular and am loving every minute of it and will continue to do so...

..that is, until I get some Indigo or Crimson love :)

As a 17 year old BlackBerry user and gamer who attends an American Public High School, you can bet that I hear a lot of rumors. So after hearing rumors about every facet of life, I've become quite discerning about the rumors I listen to when it comes to wireless phones. For me, it's all about the source and how credible (or not) it is. I have been using a T-Mobile BlackBerry Pearl for a little over a week now since I upgraded from a 7100. I followed the progress of the Pearl in general since I first heard of it and saw a leaked picture of it in August. This picture, along with T-Mobile corporate documents detailing it's release date did indeed sway me to abandon looking at the Sidekick 3 or SDA as my next phone. But after getting my pearl for my birthday last week, it was interesting to see all of the random speculation from Cingular reps and customers about when they would get theirs. However, had I been a Cingular customer, I would have deferred to the official exclusivity agreement between RIM and T-Mobile concerning the Pearl.T-Mobile's exclusivity ended December 1st and since most reports of legitimately purchased Pearls online did not come until the night of November 30th, most people did not get one until the 1st even with overnight shipping. For once, corporate America knows best.

I personally research as much as possible before purchasing any electronic devices. I also know exactly what I like. I fell in love with the candybar blackberry form of the 7100 and was super excited when the pearl came out. I am not one of those people who will run and get the qwerty version coming out later this year. Hype is awesome. It gets you excited about something that is going to be so lame in 3 months. Makes me smile.

btw... Magmic rules. Not only are they like the only game company for blackberries, imho i think they are better then ea. Way to kick ass!

no brown nosing here. I already won a contest and got three of their games. I know i won't be winning this one.

Makes me smile.

btw… Magmic rules. Not only are they like the only game company for blackberries, imho i think they are better then ea. Way to kick ass!

no brown nosing here. I already won a contest and got three of their games. I know i won’t be winning this one.
