Well that’s pretty impressive news. Just once and for all can you tell us how you really feel about the Pearl?
I hate it. I think it’s the downfall of RIM. For a company that’s products are so solid, this failed me. The OS is so slow, buggy, java errors all the time. I bought 7 of them for family and friends. All 7 either broke, or they gave it away. I also don’t like SureType – if I want to type “are” I don’t want “see” to come up.
I agree. Who do you think, in terms of carriers, is doing the best right now and who will be on top in 2007?
Cingular. There’s a hate love/relationship with me and Cingular. Someone told me that Cingular will never talk to a blog again because of what happened with me and the roadmap, but they are still my favorite carrier. UMTS is rolling out, or has in a lot of markets. The phones are getting better, T-Mobile lost its shot. Cingular needs 24/7 customer support. For the US #1 carrier, that’s crazy (that they don’t have it).
It’s funny now companies really are understanding the importance of people like us… RIM’s stock went up what, 30% after the Pearl got leaked? That’s crazy! They need to take advantage of that instead of being so tight lipped, let a couple things go. The more info you give the better and if you have a great product all it would do is help. If your product is terrible then no amount of hype can help in the long run.
Definitely. What was the deal with 18K gold BlackBerry? How’d you get it, is it still kicking around?
I actually sold it to someone. That thing was hot! Didn’t work that well though because of the gold, so your service dropped by about 3 bars. Pharrell is going to cover his in yellow diamonds.
Are you ever going to reveal yourself, BG?
You know, a ton of people ask me that, and I really can’t say. Maybe tomorrow maybe never. I think some of the allure is that no one knows who I am… I could be 80 years old with fake teeth, or some guy in Tanzania. Who knows…
