I really hope I can find new uses for this Laziridis shot when this news dies down. In about 10 days, our favourite RIM exec Jim Balsillie will sign the papers that turn the Pittsburgh Penguins over to his ownership. High fives from the kids at BB Cool, by the way, Jimmy. But early reports had Jim picking up the Pens and possibly sending them to Hamilton or its surrounding areas. Well, rest easy Pittsburgh…ians, the Pens are staying in your neck of the woods… probably.
From ESPN
“Simply, if the Isle of Capri casino chain is awarded the license, the Penguins, per their agreement with the gaming giant, will receive their long-desired new arena and stay in Steel City. The license has such financial potential that the Isle of Capri agreed to cut a $290 million check for the new arena within 90 days of a winning bid. Evidently, there’s a lot of money to be made in gambling. Who knew?”
Nothing really set in stone yet, but I’m an NHL fan and, for history-sake, hope the Penguins keep their skates hanging in Pittsburgh. It’s funny. Jim Balsillie can’t avoid rumours and speculation, no matter what pie he’s got his hands in.
