I have two push accounts, one a corporate BES server, which i use heavily since I'm in IT and need to know what's going on all the time (server alerts, service requests, etc all come to my berry) and then my personal gmail account, which probably presents a unique situation from many others. I've been known to carry on the back and forth almost IM like conversations over email with someone sitting at a desk or another berry user, however I also receive emails all day that keep me informed about what is going on. I have breaking news alerts from CNN, weather alerts from emergencyemail.org and weather.com, stock alerts, daily news emails from various websites/institutions. If these weren't pushed to my phone than it would completely negate the point in getting email alerts, because we all know nobody can sit at a desk all day. and polling at a specified time for stock alerts, weather alerts, and news alerts? I have a small group of friends that ping-pong emails around all day, and for us the faster the better, and push is a must. Personally, I think that the combination of the speed of push mail, combined with the asymmetric nature of email, make it the perfect way to have a conversation with someone who is busy working. If they don't have the time to respond right then, they are not forced to, but if they want to carry on a conversation while things are slow, they can. This is exactly why IM has never appealed to me, because if I want to be locked into a real-time symmetric conversation, then I would rather do it over the phone.
