When in Rome, you make top 10 lists, apparently. We wanted to get in on the action, too, and bring you the BlackBerry “Cool in ’06” awards where we note the top 10 blackberry-related news stories of the 2006 year. We’ve made our list and be sure to check it twice – this coincides with our big contest announcement tomorrow. So read-on, ‘Berry-lover, and check out the BlackBerry “Cool in ’06” awards.
And as always, these are in no particular order.
1. The launch of the BlackBerry Pearl
This was RIM’s first toe in the consumer pool, and although the water seemed cool at first, it looks to be warming up for this innovative device that’s topping a bunch of top 10 product lists for the year.
2. Trackwheel to trackball
Similar to the previous entry, but this could lead to so much more. With the Pearl, RIM abandoned the trackwheel navigation system and went with the trackball, and are doing the same with the upcoming 8800 models – could this be the beginning of something revolutionary?
3. RIM’s legal battles
Not one, but two court cases had RIM suiting up and headed to the witness stand over patent-related nonsense. Both times the company came out relatively unscathed, but let’s hope ’07 has RIM battling in the market as opposed to the courtroom.
4. Boy Genius
This year saw more leaks, lies, and speculation than we could have ever anticipated, all mainly thanks to one force that has named itself Boy Genius.
5. RIM’s stock pt. 1
Here’s wishing I had invested earlier. Research In Motion’s stock more than doubled this year with all of the great moving and shaking that RIM’s done in 2006.
