What d_fisher says is true, useless software, but at least they quote their own motivation in their press release

"The BlackBerry Pearl is sure to be a popular gift item this holiday season"

Please also advise how the software is able to perform all the below without affecting performance:

"VirusGuard stops malware and other threats at handset, without affecting device performance. Software continuously scans for malicious content in real-time, both on-demand and on-access, and updated virus definitions can be downloaded over-the-air. Log files record all activity, along with date and time of any scan performed, as well as viruses detected and resolved during scan."

I don't know about you, but I would expect a performance hit (even if not noticed by the naked eye under normal/light usage) from software scanning continuously in real time and logging it.

To the best of my knowledge, there is only one known trojan that effects the BlackBerry. To beat that, the trojan only causes a problem if your connected to BES and the your allowed to install software on your handheld.

SMobile is one of those companies I hate that try to make a fast buck from ignorant users by promoting FUD. Anyone reading this do yourself a favor, don't buy an anti-virus program for your BlackBerry. Don't get me wrong, anti-virus programs are a necessary evil that everyone should have on their PCs. But there is no need for a anti-virus client on the BlackBerry at the current time.
