BBCool: They absolutely do have things to change. Let’s talk about PC people then – think they’re as excited?
Sure! Unlike Microsoft, the iPhone works with PCs! The Zune doesn’t work with Macs, how stupid is that? So any average Joe with an iPod can use the iPhone just the same way. I’m sure people will buy it just an as iPod if they don’t release one separately.
BBCool: Ok. So, in your opinion, what’s RIM’s next step?
It’s hard to say. The 8800 will come out, then the camera one, then the next device, and you will see RIM losing its consumer market it just worked for “3 years” to build. RIM needs to do real ads like I have been saying for years: commercials, print, radio, get celebrities involved, get younger people interested. Put 3G in the 8800, change the OS a bit, Give us the features we have on a pocket PC in terms of multimedia, streaming, all that. And I’ll be happy.
…But I’ll still have my iPhone.
BBCool: Will the iPhone be it for you? Is it the “one” device you’ll carry as opposed to the numerous ones you’re always toting around for whatever reason?
No, because that’s the type of person I am. I won’t carry just one device, it’s not me. I like a dedicated phone, dedicated email, etc. – easier to multitask when you’re busy. By the way, if it syncs the exchange, push email, and keyboard is right- bye bye ‘Berry for me and you will see a ton of BlackBerry users gone. The push email is important. If its only POP3 and no exchange it won’t do as much damage. RIM does have that area locked down.
BBCool: Absolutely. What about the absence of 3G? If we’re looking for speed, we won’t find it with the iPhone.
It would have been great, and there will be one with 3G, but better to get a product right first then cram everything in. Not from a hardware perspective but carrier. Downloading iTunes over 3G is more work for Cingular and so on and so forth. Launch it and go from there. And you won’t find 3G in a ‘Berry either. Hello, Treo 750 with HSDPA patch.
BBCool: You and your Treo love.
I just like this damn thing, I can’t figure out why. Form factor I guess and I don’t like slide out keyboards.
