Dan – this is not the only phone in Canada with WiFi – the PPC6700 from Telus & Bell out in 2005 I believe had WiFi as well as EVDO, a touchscreen and a slide-out keyboard. It does everything the iPhone does, just rather clunkily – Windows Mobile is pretty bad phone software overall. I had one for a year, but I moved to a BB this past fall and don’t regret it a bit. I think this iphone, though sexy, will not do as well as people imagine. The market for smartphones is relatively small and $600 is a lot of money, even if you do get all the bells & whistles. Now, if this was a widescreen Ipod with a 100GB drive in it, bluetooth and Wifi, I’d be interested…

No 3G on a phone whose real attraction comes from its Internet functionality is an incredible error. With data flat rates becoming very affordable, I want to surf, watch online video or download itunes songs at umts/hsdpa (or evdo) speeds. Standard gprs, even edge enhanced, is just sooo slow!
Why did those smart apple engineers decide to put an old chevvy into a so sexy Ferrari uber-car?
What a pity. I will wait for the second edition (or perhaps they decided to delay the European/Asian release just because they need that extra time to integrate a broadband radio because the those markets are more demanding and would hardly accept old fashioned dial-up internet access speeds? In this case I would schedule a trip to London, Berlin or Madrid only to get my desired high speed iphone!)

is the push email for yahoo mean that its only yahoo mail being push, or it will offer the free services for all email? I mean, if apple as indeed worked with all these companies.. including google, I dont see why gmail wouldnt be included…

loading full webpages with EDGE wont be fun.. i wonder if the format of webpages turn to a mobile browser mode when no EDGE…

no doubt, I am still excited.. i neeed to see it and feel it though.. more info plz apple!

He forgot to mention WiFi. If this phone becomes available in Canada, it will be the only smart phone available with it. I understand that data costs in the US are negligible, which may be why nobody is mentioning it, but for us Canadians that feature alone would pay for the cost of the phone in less than a year and in my mind is, by far, the most important feature.

The idea of having an actually usable (affordable) portable internet device just makes me salivate. I think that BB made a big mistake by caving in to carriers and leaving WiFi out of the Pearl.
