Readers in BlackBerry Cool’s hometown of Ottawa, Ontario are more than familiar with Ontario Health Promotion Minister (and former Ottawa mayor), Jim Watson. The health nut has turned to BlackBerrys in order to get Canadians in shape, suggesting the addition of a pedometer to the device directly to RIM.
“Officials at RIM Ltd., the Canadian manufacturer of the BlackBerry, have not discounted the possibility of adding a chip to their popular hand-held device but are not committing to it.”
“(Our) initial investigation has not yielded an obvious possibility, but I continue to investigate. In particular, coupling a sophisticated pedometer with a Blackberry using Bluetooth (technology) would be possible,” a RIM official wrote in response to Mr. Watson’s inquiry.
He said if RIM goes ahead with the idea, he hopes it sends a message to BlackBerry and other cellphone users to think more about exercise and try and get in better shape.
So, I suppose we’ll turn it over the end user (that means you, kiddo). Would you like to see a pedometer already installed on your device? Would RIM show that they care about you by slapping it into their already extensive OS? Thoughts?
