Boy Genius reveals BlackBerry 8800/9XXX information

He may have been somewhat tight-lipped (but never enough) in our recent interview, but you can always count on Boy Genius to come through. He’s posted a list of info pertaining to the upcoming BlackBerry 8800 device, as well as information about the 9XXX device set for a Q4 release on Cingular. Here’s a few highlights:

- The 8800 on Cingular is scheduled for a mid February release.
- The 9xxx series will have 3G
- The 9xxx series will have a completely new UI

For the entire list, you should know the drill by now, but it’s posted after the jump for your convenience. Thanks again, Beeg.

- The 8800 (Cingular model) will not have a camera like previously reported.
- The 8800 keys are very much like the 8700, just a tad shorter — easy to type!
- The 9xxx series will have 3G
- The 9xxx series will support a full backup and restore to microSD card!
- Not sure if this is just Cingular, probably all major carriers but BIS 3.0 will be rolled out at the 9xxx launch
- It will have a new processor
- The 9xxx series will have a completely new UI
- The 9xxx series is scheduled to be released Q4 on Cingular

    The no WiFi on the 8800 will be a huge disappointment to many, and will no doubt cost Cingular some sales in this unit.

    Of course the fabled 9xxx will have a new processor. The intel processor can’t do W-CDMA, which is another name for UMTS and it’s upgrade, HSDPA. The intel processor can only do GSM/GPRS/EDGE.

    I just think that the battery pack on that sucker is going to be huge.

    I talked to a friend of mine today that works at the local Cingular store and she said she had a meaning this morning about it and it has WiFi and a camera. She said they had slides showing all the nifty new features. She said she figured mid-February releasing.
