QuickPlayer for BlackBerry now available

Comments

We’ve been following this story for a while. Quickplayer, a service from Quickplay that streams brilliant audio content to your BlackBerry, is now officially available. We’ve been impressed from the getgo, as you can probably tell from this video, and we’re glad to let owners of 7130e, 8700 series, and 8100 series of BlackBerrys that they can pick it up for a mere $7.95 USD a month (free to try).

“Now available at GetQuickPlayer.com, the QuickPlayer for BlackBerry application provides streamed audiocasts (similar to podcasts), 5-7 minutes, from top-tier media companies and providers including: ABC News, AccuWeather.com, Clear Channel, Gaiam, MarketWatch.com, The Wall Street Journal and Westwood One.”

“For the very first time, BlackBerry owners can enjoy audiocasts on their device without waiting for a download. Other highlights include the ability to create ‘My Channels’ that will track only the audiocasts the user is interested in, and an easy to use send-to-a-friend tool. All channels including news, sports, and entertainment are regularly updated so subscribers can be informed and entertained anytime, anywhere.”

Wow… only $7.95 a month? Plus $500 a month to Rogers for the data? What a bargain!

On that note, anyone know when the Canadian carriers are going to join the 21st Century and offer affordable unlimited data plans?

There’s no way they are going to be able to keep ripping their customers off so much once the iPhone comes out. Consumers will not stand for $500 data bills that that thing will generate.

Fortunatley, I’m with T-Mobile in the US (which has relatively inexpensive data plans) and I’m on an umlimted plan which my company pays for. When they make streaming video available, then I will be impressed…But you’ve got to crawl before you can walk.

Note that podlinez.com makes much of the same content available for the cost of a voice phone call on any phone. Depending on your data plan and listening habits, this could be cheaper.
