Data rates here in France are quite expensive too: 30 euros for 60 Mb (40 euros if you don't sign up for a telephone subscription too).

That's with Orange/France Telecom. SFR (Vodafone) offers 5Mb for 15 euros, but if you go above that rate the price increases very quickly.

I agree that a lower price and/or unlimited or near unlimited mail and web surfing would have a high take up rate, not perhaps with the traditional BBs but certainly with more consumer styled models like the Pearl.

In my opinion...

There's always so much chatter about how consumers want more features. I totally disagree. Consumers want cheaper data rates!!! What if 100MB/month of data usage cost $10/month? Millions of consumers would be signing up. $40/month for data is just too steep.

Drop the data rates and consumers will buy BlackBerrys in droves. Imagine unlimited wireless emails, IMs, web surfing, and gaming for $10/month?!?! Millions would buy.

We're getting there...slowly. But I think that's the critical factor holding back BB adoption worldwide.

I agree for the most part. The BlackBerry really shines when it comes to reliability and the push email. Sure, everything else is great, but those are the parts that for the most part, no one else has really been able to replicate.

Most BlackBerry users aren't looking for flashy new features, but if RIM wants to expand more into the consumer market, their going to need to offer it, while not destroying their core prosumer and business markets.
