No wi-fi on Rogers 8800 / no 9XXX in 2007?

Ruh-oh. Just when I was almost excited about getting the BlackBerry 8800, I find this post on BlackBerryForums. Members have been going back and forth deliberating about details regarding the 8800 being released on Canadian carrier Rogers, and one user, nsimpson, reports that the device will not come with wi-fi – this, apparently, coming from Rogers’ head office.

“Got confirmation that NO it will not have wifi in the Rogers version. Sad to say that no it doesn’t, this is coming first hand from someone who has played with it. Other bad news is that the 9XXX series version will not be in canada in 07 (coming from rogers road map).”

We’ll take this with a grain of salt for now. We haven’t heard anything, apart from this little nugget of possibilities, from the Rogers camp regarding the 8800′s release, and I’m starting to get a little anxious. I’d prefer to post more than rumours, folks, so if any of you have details, by all means, let us know.

Why does Rogers feel compelled to be evil in everything they do? I would love to be a fly on the wall when they meet with Apple and tell them to disable WiFi on the iPhone.

Maybe they’ll release the 88xx WITH WiFi later on?

I mean, Rogers did release the 7130g, and then the Pearl 5 months later.

I would only assume they released the 7130g first for Corporate users, and then the Pearl for Customers.

What if the 8800r is for Corporate users? And then the 88xxr is for Customers, 5 months later?

My Lord, My Lord. I officially have a deep desire for Rogers to become defunkt, and for all the employees to go to different companies for the same pay.

WTF!!!! These savagely demented people. I really think the big ups there wipe their backsides with $100 notes that their *Pilfer* from anyone who comes into contact with their company.

Why do they not offer WIFI? Well it’s because their phone services will all evaporate once wimax is here. And the 8800 and all its friends would slowly start chipping away at their staggering profits with skype.

Rogers is more expensive than Irish mobile and landline providers. And ireland has the 2nd most expensive tariffs in Europe.

Man they have us so badly conned.
