The ringtone goes through a little bit of a conversion process that took maybe two seconds for my little three second file, and almost immediately I had an email in my BlackBerrys inbox telling me to go and grab my ringtone (just a warning, the tones disappear from Simprit’s database after just one day so they’ve got room for more, so act fast on getting yours).
By clicking on the link in the email Simprit chucked your way, you’ll then be brought to your own little library of tones that you’ve created thus far (we’ve just got the one) on Simprit’s database. By clicking on the name of the tone you want on your device, you’re brought to an audio player that let’s you preview the tone and then save it to your BlackBerry ringtone directory.

After saving your new ringtone, it’s just a matter of changing your tone in your profile and you’re all set. You’ll find your ringtone has found a nice home in your BlackBerry ringtone database atop all of the defaults. Choose your new tone et voila! Your calls will now be announced in your own personal way – in my case, I can feel like a bigger fanboy than the next guy when my BlackBerry buzzes with the iPhone’s signature tone. Wow, I’m a nerd.
Overall, Simprit’s MiniRingtone is a decent application. I’d prefer less steps to get the tone onto my BlackBerry, though, that’s for sure. Also, I’m not so sure that the $19.95 USD investment is really worth the price. The 15-day free trial served it’s purpose in my case, and I’m not really sure BlackBerry corporate users will be taking their lunch breaks to make ringtones. A nice idea by Simprit, but decent execution on a decent product leaves us a little underwhelmed with MiniRingtones.
