Why didn’t the BlackBerry cross the road?

200134107002aq3.jpgBecause a New York State Senator doesn’t want them to! Har, har, har. But seriously, forks, this is no a laughing matter. Sen. Carl Kruger is trying to get pedestrians in his neck of the woods to extinguish their iPods and mobile devices (you better believe that includes BlackBerrys) while crossing the street – for safety’s sake, I guess. Ridiculous? My vote’s in the “yes” column.

Kruger says he will introduce legislation on Wednesday to ban the use of gadgets such as Blackberry devices and video games while crossing the street.

“Government has an obligation to protect its citizenry,” Kruger said in a telephone interview from Albany, the state capital. “This electronic gadgetry is reaching the point where it’s becoming not only endemic but it’s creating an atmosphere where we have a major public safety crisis at hand.”

Don’t feel like putting the ‘Berry down? You’re looking at a $100 fine. Hoo boy.

I bet the Senator is getting some pressure from the insurance industry as they are paying for these lapses in attention.
